interrupted

I had to interrupt my regularly scheduled hiatus to show you Wyatt's first preschool photo! I can't believe they got him to sit still and look at the camera. Not to mention his glasses are pushed up on his nose and he's not sucking his thumb. Because, yes, he is a thumbsucker. He's got a little fake smile going on, but I think it is adorable! Let's hope for such good luck when we take our Christmas Card picture this weekend....

hiatus

Whoa. Oh hiatus for a while as I STUDY to take my last 2 licensing exams. Yuck. These last two are definitely the most formidable, and studying is taking way longer than expected. So, I am obviously not blogging. I also cancelled magazine subscriptions, which are my fave, so don't take it personally! I do really enjoy blogging, but I have always felt I should be doing something else...studying! I just need to get these tests out of the way, I have been taking them for 2 years, after all. And they are yucky.
But...here are a couple things on my mind:

I am going here for my first airplane ride in almost 3 years:
A wedding of a wonderful friend in Mt. Hood.

I am wanting something like this as a replacement for the sharp objects aka our nesting coffee tables:
Can you DIY this?

Jon and I saw these guys at the Sun Valley Pavilion last week. Amazing show! Great live performance.
These are my kind of stripes. Off-kilter and unexpected. A play on something classic. via Bright Bazaar, a great new blog-to-me.
We thought for a nanosecond about trying to potty-train, as Peanut was pretty interested a while ago. I was told to get a chart:
I didn't even get a chance to tape this on the wall before he pooped on the patio. Umm..

Dr Diagnosis - New Sunglasses

Saw the eye doctor this morning, he said I have UV damage and that it is inflamed, if it gets any worse they will have to take invasive measures. Ick! I would love to take this diagnosis and splurge on some great new sunglasses, but I think I can only afford this first pair from F21. Too bad, MARC, Dolce, Tom Ford and Oakley...

Whew! I am a bad blogger. I know it isn't rocket science, and I am working more these days, but I think there are 2 culprits. 1) I enjoy reading everyone else's blog way too much. 2) Peanut is impossible to photograph these days. He is all over the place, grabbing at the camera, and generally I need my hands free when I am around him. That said, he does have a 2nd Birthday coming up so we will try to get some good pics of this occasion.
Meanwhile, here are some things I am too busy looking at on other people's blogs:

Giant balloons with dangly ribbon and metallic sparklies? Yes!

So true! (for me)

The felt flowers are a reoccurring theme. I need something to jazz up my ugly white metal cruiser bike basket, and I think these are it. Now to pick a color...and actually follow-through and do it!
Cardboard planter. I love cardboard. Ever since we had to make a cardboard chair a la Frank Gehry in school, I have loved furniture made from cardboard. And cutting it is not easy - so I have respect for those perfectly razor-sharp edges.
I'm ready to do another painting. What I really should be doing is studying, so doing another painting will be my reward for finally taking my last 2 tests.

Peanut Update

Here is Wyatt trying out his skis - the night before he hit the magic carpet. He would have slept with those skis if we would have let him.

Here is a photo of Wyatt and some of his bestest buddies at their school's spring music program. Zero words came out of his mouth, he was in awe of everything going on around him the whole time. I do consider it a success because there were no tears and he stayed up front the whole time!
Wyatt eats broccoli and baby green beans. Evidence.
Wyatt and Grandma. Grandma and Grandpa came for Easter and provided a great day of breakfast, easter egg hunting at church and babysitting so Mom and Dad could go skiing.
His new bike. HUGE hit.

Only one more week! We are planning a watching party, even though we will most likely have seen her dress, etc splashed all over the media earlier that day

These cookies provide some inspiration, although I'm not going to go crazy and do a Kate cookie, I might take a stab at some Union Jack sugar cookies. Yum!

This Slim Aarons photograph epitomizes spring in a ski town. People are swimming, but there is still snow everywhere. And it might have snowed last night! Ugh! It's such a tease. But you will notice all the people having fun in the background, which is what the end of ski season is all about.
On an unrelated note, I might have found a use for all of Jon's used motorcycle tires that are hanging out behind our garage trailer-park style. Maybe even grow some veggies in them!

high tea

What better way to enjoy my favorite, a hot cup of tea, than with a royal wedding mug? I have the most amazing Prince Charles and Camilla wedding mug that I found at the Gold Mine for 50 cents, but after a few spins through the dishwasher it is hard to tell who is charles and who is camilla. And who cares about them anymore anyway? Princess Catherine has stolen the show. Unfortunately, but not unexpectedly, the mugs I found online were gaudy (I know it is kinda tacky to begin with, but that doesn't mean the mugs have to be ugly). And they are way too expensive. I'm looking for a 4.99 deal, here. Let me know if you find anything. Also, some Chinese company whipped up a huge batch of mugs, but they put Harry's face on the mug instead of Williams. I guess the Chinese can't tell them apart....

In other related wedding news, the house of Alexander McQueen, led by Brit Sarah Burton is designing her gown. Based on some of her recent runway looks, it could be a little risque for the future Princess. She doesn't seem like one to make awful fashion choices so I am giving her the benefit of the doubt on this one. Can't wait to see it on april 29th!

This is Peanut's First Art Project at school! I am so proud. The fact that it is a snake is something I'm sure his Dad set up, because normally I hate snakes. I will make an exception for this green paint-stroked guy. He seems harmless, as all preschool animals should be. School is going much better, now that he is not sick anymore. I did notice one of his front teeth has a little chip, I felt awful, but luckily he will lose his baby teeth. I have no idea how that happened, and it is pretty small.

Architect Barbie

Mattel has announced they will release Architect Barbie this year. They say they are celebrating Architecture as the Career of the Year. Huh? Anyone in the Architecture field is wondering where their career went. Bad timing, if you ask me. Maybe it inspire people to go hire an architect! Also note, Architect Barbie is wearing a dress and heeled black booties, along with a pink drawing tube. I would love to see her on a jobsite in that getup! All joking aside, it was a really nice effort by Mattel.

snow sculpture

Here is a snow sculpture of a different sort. Luke Aleckson created this installation with plastic trays on his feet! Oh, to have the time for such pursuits.

Peanut has been battling cold after cold lately, he even lost his little voice last weekend! So sad! We've been in survival mode and am ready for spring. I'm also studying for my next Architecture test, so I have also been hunkered down. Peanut starts "SCHOOL" next week so we are working on a couple things with him to get him ready. Basically sleeping through the night, giving up the bottle, and adjustment to a new caregiver. Wyatt does not really do well with change or adjustment, so I know next week will be a battle, too. But once he gets in the groove his new school will be amazing! We went to a little fundraiser at the school last night, and once Wyatt would release his death grip on us we couldn't get him to stop running around with all the other little munchkins. Yes, that was us hauling our "shy" toddler screaming and kicking out of the building when it was time to go. At least he wasn't old enough to be interested in the cake walk. I was always scared of the cakewalk in grade school. ???? I know.

Dallas!

Dallas is back! Yes! The tv show is being revived on TNT - with members of the original cast. JR, Sue Ellen and Bobby! I just hope they use the original theme song. I loved that song as a kid. Here it is in all its glory on youtube.

I miss my sister. It was so great to have her out here for so long, but we don't see her nearly enough.

 Here is Peanut. He is
1.Really, really, really into books.
2. Getting picky about foods.
3. Talking up a storm (even though I don't know exactly everything he is saying it sounds really important.)
4. Loves dancing around the house to music. He does a little pivot and circles around in a hop - it's hilarious. Doesn't matter if it is Kings of Leon or Lady Gaga.
5. Is starting to get used to the snow. We went for a walk on the bike path yesterday and he didn't whine at all! Now on to sledding...what kid doesn't like sledding?

she wins!

Olivia Wilde's dress was stunning. Fun and sparkly enough for awards season, but the dark color grounds it just enough. She didn't actually win an award, just in my book.

Once again, it is brrr-cold-freezing here and I am starting to wish for springtime weather. Not much of a skier's attitude, but I'm not doing much skiing! I can't wait to get back outside! These green interiors are a fresh feast for the eyes on a cold sunny day.
